CBT focuses on Thoughts, Emotions, and Behaviors and how they work together to create patterns in an individual’s life. The ultimate goal of CBT is to change those patterns by changing each of the three elements.
MI was developed to help individuals to realize the changes they want to make for themselves, which is significantly more effective than telling individuals what changes they “should” make. This modality is especially helpful with young adults and older children.
